L3 Technologies trades almost exclusively on the World Wide Web.
Our web presence makes it possible to market our products and services effectively, with minimal overheads.
We specialise in the design and implementation of browser-friendly, feature-rich, low-bandwidth web sites of almost any size, drawing on several years of experience developing one of Europe's largest software catalogue sites.
We are able to offer advice and web site design services to organisations interested in establishing a web presence, or improving an existing web site.
Existing Projects
It goes without saying that we designed and developed our own site.
Every site we design is tailored to our clients' requirements, and towards the intended customer base.
The following sites serve as examples of our work.
http://www.greymatter.co.uk
The Grey Matter Software Catalogue is one of the largest software catalogue sites in Europe.
The site is statically generated on a daily basis from a hierarchical SQL database that stores full product details and catalogue structures.
At the time of writing there are in the region of 9,000 pages on the site and around 4,000 documents and evaluation or demonstration software packages.
Additional features include a search engine, secure on-line orders, email forms, and an emailed newsletter.
http://www.rarevols.co.uk
The Patrick Pollak - Antiquarian and Rare Books site is a large catalogue site designed to run with a minimal amount of maintenance and low overheads on freespace available from any UK ISP.
The vast majority of the site is generated on a regular basis from data held in a popular booksellers database.
L3 Technologies developed a web site generator, that reads data exported from the database and uses a number of templates to create catalogue and index pages.
The template based approach, means that the entire site can be changed by simply editing a very small number of template files.
At the time of writing the site consists of around 1,000 pages in total.
Additional features include on-line orders, and email forms.
Some unusual techniques were devised to allow the site to take full advantage of the latest browsers, whilst retaining full compatibility with older browsers.
If You Like What You See...
Why not drop us a line detailing your requirements, whether you want us to design a site from scratch, improve an existing site or simply need advice.
If You Want More Information...
We have written a paper (available on-line in Adobe Acrobat PDF format) on the fundamentals of web site design.
It provides information which will be of use when specifying your requirements, and will assist you in distinguishing what is good design from what is bad, regardless of who builds your site.
